VGP invest in Magic with Cold Foil Technology

Turnhout, March 21, 2022 I Van Genechten Packaging (VGP) are proud to announce the successful commissioning of a brand-new offset printing capability utilising cold foil technology at their site in Angoulême, France. Installed and commissioned in partnership with Vinfoil, the machine will be producing its first orders in April, with more projects already in the pipeline.

 Why Coldfoil?

Cold foil technology allows VGP to stay on the cutting edge of consumer packaging and is a perfect fit for the company’s ambitions to be seen as best-in-class in the markets they operate in. It offers a cost effective, easily optimised and efficient solution to premium-packaging customers, but also provides substantial sustainability benefits.

Smart use of material and built-in recyclability help reduce the technology’s environmental impact significantly. Meanwhile, the process itself represents a reduction in foil waste.

Investing in Magic

The new machine is set to be a boost to everybody on the team at Angoulême, allowing them to improve their speed to market by bringing a process in-house that was previously provided externally. VGP pride themselves on their “one-stop” approach and cold foil enhances their capabilities here.

The business case behind investing in the new process was, like everything at VGP, focused on the needs of their customers and improving their already impressive sustainability credentials. The cold foil press offers customers brilliant, metallic accent colours, whilst reducing their environmental impact: a win-win.

Jérôme Cahu, Plant Manager VG Angoulême, told us:

My team and I are very proud to have this extra capability up and running so fast. VGP’s investment is starting to pay off with the machine’s early output already well booked and the additional capacity opening up the potential for new customers to enjoy the company’s innovative approach. This innovative process fits perfectly alongside our offerings of hotfoil, metallization transfer and metallic inks, meaning we have the perfect solution for any market need.”

About Angoulême

VGP’s Angoulême site is specialised in the production of packaging for high-end products, such as premium spirits, and customised finishing techniques.

The demand for sustainable packaging in the premium products industry has been growing exponentially over the last 5 years. VGP has made a number of substantial investments towards increasing sustainability to cater to this demand and VG Angoulême is especially focused on creative and sustainable premium packaging. The reward for these efforts was when the plant earned CO2 Compensation Certification for the first time in 2020, a recognition that was recently renewed.
