Riga/Turnhout, 14 May 2025 | Van Genechten Packaging Group today announces the start of a €10 million expansion project at its plant VG Kvadra Pak JSC in Latvia, reinforcing its position as a key packaging partner for the Baltic and Nordic markets. The initiative includes construction, automation, and sustainability upgrades aimed at significantly increasing production capacity and supporting long-term regional growth.

Van Genechten Packaging states that the expansion will vastly increase capabilities and create new jobs and opportunities in Riga, as demand for sustainable folding carton packaging continues to rise across the region.

To grow our premium packaging business in Europe, we are reinforcing our market position with this investment to support customers in Eastern and Western Europe.” Said Frank Ohle, CEO of the Van Genechten Packaging Group. “This expansion extends our footprint in the Nordics and Baltics while adding to our strong premium network in Eastern Europe, together with the 2 sites of DOT2DOT in Gdansk and Warsaw.”

Roberts Vasilevskis, General Director of VG Kvadra Pak JSC, VGP’s Latvian subsidiary, added:

This is a landmark project for the region and the result of strong collaboration between industry leaders in Latvia. We're proud to be building not just a facility, but also creating high-value opportunities for the local economy. It’s a historical milestone for our company and the wider community we serve.”

Latvian partners building for the future

UPB Nams, one of the leading construction companies in Latvia, has been appointed as the building contractor for the nine-month project.

We are pleased to see that export-oriented manufacturing companies are choosing to expand their operations in Latvia and have entrusted us with the construction of this new facility. Industrial projects like this are one of UPB’s core specializations - with extensive experience in delivering large-scale, high-intensity projects, we are able to ensure a fast and efficient construction process.”

Said Kaspars Rožkalns, CEO of UPB Nams LTD.

Operational excellence through automation

Van Genechten Packaging confirms that the expansion will be completed in Q1 2026, with the new site operational shortly afterwards. The group states that increased production capabilities, enhanced sustainability, and increased automation will come into immediate effect to support VGP’s customers in the premium packaging space, mainly in confectionery and beauty & cosmetics.

Details of an opening ceremony to celebrate the completed expansion work are yet to be released, but can be expected in Q2 2026.
